Overview:
The localization engineer works closely with our application engineering and integration teams to deliver localized text, audio, and bitmaps for Nuance products in over two dozen languages. The localization engineer is responsible for maintaining our language database, fixing language-related bugs, and developing automation for language-related tasks and processes.

Responsibilities:

* Maintain and integrate localized strings and prompts into Mobility products.

* Fix localization-related bugs with assistance from language consultants.

* Maintain localization language database. This includes maintaining and improving the core architecture and developing scripts for data import/export, implementing source control and managing resource integration with engineering build processes.

* Function as release engineer for new strings and prompts.

* Develop standards for exchange of language data files between different groups within the company (command grammars, dialing grammars, etc.).

* Develop and maintain tools for extracting and processing data from the web (names, phonebooks, blogs)

* Process lexical data to be used by linguists, acoustic modelers, etc.

* Function as expert on character set issues.

* Create tools, scripts, etc to facilitate localization process as needed Learn and keep current with industry standards (VoiceXML, SRGS Grammars, MRCP, etc.).

Qualifications:

* Perl and/or Python scripting skills.

* BS degree in CS or related field, ideally with at least 3 years of relevant work experience.

* Proficiency in one or more languages other than English.

* Work with minimal supervision, proactive and self-motivated for timely delivery of quality code.

* Demonstrated creative and critical thinking capabilities and troubleshooting skills.

* Proven track record in delivering product-quality code related to the areas described above.

* Highly professional, with the ability to deliver solid work on tight schedules.

Preferred Qualifications:

* Database development experience.

* Web development experience.

* Unix/Linux shell scripting (bash).

* Microsoft VisualBasic for Applications.

* Engineering experience in machine translation and/or terminology management.

* Some familiarity with linguistics.

* Familiarity with revision control systems.
